HOW TO SETUP MY ANTMINER S9?

This Antminer S9 walkthrough will guide you on the Antminer S9 setup. The whole process is just plug and play. First of all you need to have a 1.6kW power supply unit to power up your mining rig which I did not introduced in the previous guide about "IS BITCOIN MINING PROFITABLE?" You can purchase the one made by Bitmain here, or you can get from your local computer stores that looks like this, as long as rated at 1.6kW with 9 power cords which are to be connected to the ASIC boards.

The Connectivity Setup

You might want to consider having a couple of TP-Link powerline if your internet router is out of range from your Antminer S9. It will be very convenient by converting your electrical lines to internet transmission. Since, the Antminer S9 only relies on uploads, there is no concern to poor downloading speed.

Your whole setup may look like the photo below. Also, make sure the location you choose for your Antminer S9 setup have proper air circulation for those who are staying along the equator or during summer for cold countries. The Antminer S9 is capable to increase your room temperature to 60°C to 70°C if there is no proper air circulation. Final note, the Antminer S9 could be horribly noisy ranging around 80dB which could be awfully irritating for your family members. Hopefully you won't be kicked out from the house with your Antminer S9.

Detect IP Address & Antminer Settings

Upon powering up your Antminer S9, you will notice the fan will be blowing in a irregularly. Do not panic when this happen as the Antminer S9 CPU is calibrating the fan speed during startup. If your Antminer S9 ended up beeping, do check your ethernet wire connection if it is being plug wrongly. Else, find a needle to press the reset button at the console for 5 sec after you power off the Antminer S9. Restart it and everything should work fine.

Now, when there is no beeping sound, go to your computer and download Advance IP Scanner which you can download it here. After successfully installing the software, initialize the software and click on SCAN button and you should see result similar to below. You may not find the name Antminer S9, so you need to key in your local IP one by one on the internet browser.

Like for mine, I have identified my Antminer S9 which is 192.168.0.115. Use your web browser to navigate into the Antminer S9 settings with your detected Antminer S9 IP. The page will show an authorization page. By factory default the Username and Password are set to root. After being granted access, you will be redirected to the Antminer S9 setting main page.

Click on the Miner Configuration tab and follow all the URL setting below as I'm using Antpool. If you prefer other mining pools such as f2pool, you may need to go to their website to find the proper setting. As for the worker name, you can have it set at your own preference. Password by default are 123, it doesn't matter as there are no security concern here. Once done, click on Save&Apply.

Next, click on the Network tab. You can set your prefered Hostname and follow the remaining settings shown below. Once done, click on Save&Apply. We are half through completion!

Mining Pool Setup & Passive Income!

Since I am using Antpool, I will use it as an example for this walkthrough, If you prefer other mining pools, the setup will be about the same, the only difference is the user interface. You can access to Antpool here. You will need to register for your account first before being able to setup your mining pool settings. So, since there won't be any problem for an account registration, I will skip this process. It is as easy as registering for an email account.

Once you are done with the registration, do not forget to verify your email to authenticate your Antpool account. Now, you can login your Antpool account and it will redirect you to the main page shown below.

Click on the Settings tab to create a sub-account. You will see a button named Add Sub-Account, click on it. A pop-up will request you to key in your sub-account name. Make sure your sub-account name is the same with your Worker Name registered in your Antminer S9 web setting, which we had gone through above. Take note that I have my worker name with ".01". Don't include this for now.

After creating your sub-account, it will appear in the Settings page. the next part you need to do is to get a Bitcoin wallet. If you do not know which wallet to choose from, I would suggest using CEX.IO. Previously, I was using XAPO until I change to Payeer then recently CEX.IO because they had changed their policy to have you pay for the transaction fee which is about 0.002BTC (US$5.00) where as CEX.IO only requires 0.001BTC for transaction fee. Make sure that your wallet is enabled with 2 Factor Authorization (2FA) to prevent hackers to enter your wallet and steal your Bitcoin. Once you generated your Bitcoin wallet address, you can now fill in the blank for Bitcoin wallet address. Note that there is an option to lock the wallet address. This will not allow you to change your wallet address in the future. So, be careful. If you don't plan to change your wallet address, then might as well lock it.

Now, go back to the Dashboard tab. Under the Dashboard tab, click on Worker sub-tab. You will see a Create Worker button. Click it and key in the ".01" or anything that you assign with the number during your worker name registration at the Antminer S9 web setting done previously.

Click the CREATE button and we are all done! Now, just sit back and wait for your Bitcoin to be sent to your wallet everyday, PASSIVELY! Happy mining!
